ABOUT
Holly Humphries is an artist from and living in Bristol. She makes work which centres playful abstraction and design so that she communicates optimism into the world. She is interested in aesthetic pleasure and visual attractiveness which drives her process. Her work is stylish, forms are floated in planes of flat, hot colour whilst confident, slick edges persuade the viewer into believing Humphries’ fictional fantasy. She likes to allude to the independent process of painting by including blended and brazenly unblended brush strokes, which to her celebrates the frank nature of creation. Shapes in Humphries work conform to the rules of light but not gravity, in this way they slide into a world of design rather than figuration and further glorify individual autonomy. Her paintings are dynamic in their often central compositions and bold colour combinations.
Humphries is the founder and director of the creative events company Red Orange which is based in Bristol. It's aim is to expose local artists work through exhibitions which merge art and music to build fantastic, sensory experiences.
